Youngsters enjoyed the Discovery Days camp at Hiwan Homestead Museum in Evergreenon the second day of the three-day camp June 5.
The sessions are held to educate and entertain kids in grades kindergarten through second grade.
According to
Randi Marcos
, the theme this year focuses on the Pioneers. The program is designed for different topics each year.Nnext year the theme will be Indians and the following year, Cowboys.
"The idea is if you start as a kindergartner this year you get the whole rotation by the time a child is in second grade," she said.
At least 30 children were divided into different groups with group leaders to guide them through the 17 room house. Different activities that might have been appropriate to the time of the settlers were coordinated.
Activities such as music, making ice cream and operating an old-fashioned, and working printing press were on the agenda.
According to director
Sue Ashbaugh
, the program has been in existence for 28 years.
Session one started June 3.
Session 2 is June 10-12
Session 3 is June 17-19
and Session 4 is June 24-26
The classes are held from 9 to 11:15 a.m. at the museum 4208 S. Timbervale Drive, Evergreen
