Dr. Ken Cohen, a physician at New West Physicians' Evergreen Internal Medicine office, has been recognized as a "Top Doc" in 5280 magazine's annual survey of local physicians.

Cohen, New West's medical director, is the only internal medicine physician to be recognized from Evergreen. The New West's Evergreen office is located at 30940 Stage Coach Blvd., Ste. 270E, in Evergreen.

Dr. Cohen has practiced medicine for more than 20 years, and he is a preceptor and clinical assistant professor at both the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the School of Pharmacy. Dr. Cohen earned his undergraduate degree at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., before completing his medical degree at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the Colorado Medical Society.

Dr. Cohen has been recognized through the National Committee for Quality Assurance's (NCQA) Heart/Stroke Recognition Program and its Diabetes Physician Recognition Program.

The Heart/Stroke Recognition Program is co-sponsored by NCQA, the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association and recognizes physicians for providing quality care to patients with cardiovascular disease or who have had a stroke.

Co-sponsored by NCQA and the American Diabetes Association, the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program recognizes physicians for providing quality care to patients with diabetes. Both are three-year recognition programs.

Dr. Cohen's Heart/Stroke recognition dates are Oct. 19, 2006 to Oct. 19, 2009, and his Diabetes Physician Recognition Program recognition dates are May 10, 2007 to May 10, 2010.

Each year, 5280 posts an online ballot that is available to all Denver-area doctors with a valid Colorado medical license. The survey, featured in the October issue, includes primary care physicians and specialists in areas recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
