Polar Plunge a cold one
Contributed by: YourHub.com on 1/4/2008

Brave jumpers plunged in to the icy water of Evergreen Lake Jan. 1 at the inaugural Polar Plunge, an event held to support two area agencies: The Evergreen Rec Center's Special Needs program, and Drive Smart Evergreen-Conifer.

According to Director Jackie Mohr, "We had 76 jumpers and raised $5,500, which I think is pretty good for the first event."

Mohr said the funds will be split between the two groups.

Maren Schreiber, director of the Special Needs program said, "The water was 33.5 degrees. It was great to have the four agencies work together, Evergreen FireDept., Jeffco Sheriff's office, Drive Smart Evergreen/Conifer and the Evergreen Park and Recreation District. It was fun to have people dressed up incostumesand everyone had a smile on their face. They aredefinitelymuch braver than I ever would be!. We look forward to having more people taking the plunge next year!"

Evergreen resident Mary Ann Tate, who braved the cold, said, "It was certainly a new and different experience. For me, the exciting thing was I felt good enough about my fitness to jump in a bathing suit in front of all those people!"
