Residents of Bear Creek Canyon with concerns about the safety of the new Genesee Dam are invited to meet with Colorado's top dam safety officials on Nov. 29 at the Morrison Town Hall, 110 Stone Street, from 7 TO 9 p.m.
The question-and-answer session will deal with the emergency plan in case of a dam failure, the hazard evaluation process and inundation mapping. The aging Evergreen Dam, another source of concern to downstream residents, will also be discussed.
Appearing on behalf of the State Engineers Office of the Department of Natural Resources will be
Jack Byers, Deputy State Engineer;
Mark Haynes, Chief, Dam Safety Program; and
Paul Perri, Design Review and Construction Inspection Engineer.
The event is organized by Friends of Bear Creek, a local watershed protection group dedicated to a sustainable environment and high quality of life in the canyon community.
FOBC was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board to work with major "stakeholders" in the canyon, such as water providers, conservation groups, and government agencies, toward a shared positive vision of the future and a long-range plan to protect the Bear Creek ecosystem.
