The owners of Rising Graphics & Printing in Evergreen were presented the first Business in Ethics Award Friday by the Evergreen Rotary Club during its weekly meeting at El Rancho.
Pat Martin, chairman of the club's Vocational Committee, presented the award to Russell and Shelly Houston "for best exemplifying the criteria" for the award: Rotary's Four-Way Test of truthfulness, fairness, and building goodwill and better friendships in the community.
The Houstons bought the business a year and a half ago from Diane and Lyle Rising, but Shelly Houston had worked at the business "off and on" since 1998, when it was called PDQ.
In announcing the award, Martin said the Houstons had "stepped up to bat" for the community, donating printing and graphics services to various deserving groups during their ownership.
Nominations for the award came from members of the club. Russell Houston is a member of the club, as are both Diane, who is the club's president, and Lyle Rising.
