Wellness Walk a Big Step to Help Those in Need

Nearly 200 people turn out for 11 th Annual Wellness Walk

July 1, 2009 - What a memorable morning it was! With almost 200 people in attendance, the Walk was a wonderful success and raised nearly $10,000 with net proceeds to benefit the programs and services at Jefferson Center. Participants enjoyed a bright, sunny morning, walked around lake, snacked on healthy food and won fabulous prizes donated from generous local businesses. The free health screenings were well attended and many enjoyed the informative health fair.

The Walk, held in late June, was a success in large part due to the hard work of our staff and volunteers and support of our local businesses and their partnership with us tomake a difference in the lives of people with serious mental illness. Together with community support last year Jefferson Center provided treatment to 6,089 clients and education and prevention services to thousands more community members, many of whom had no other resources.

Like Angie, who was homeless and struggling with bipolar disorder and thoughts of suicide. Through the work she did at Jefferson Center, Angie has stabilized and gotten back on her feet. Today Angie has a home, is involved in efforts to improve her community and has even started her own business. "Thanks again for everything that you have done to make a difference in my life and the lives of so many." --Angie
