Sheriff’s Office closes Clear Creek

Beginning Oct. 16 the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office will close all waterway activity on Clear Creek from tunnel one to Highway 119, along U.S. 6 west of Golden, in Clear Creek Canyon.

The closure will be in effect Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. until mid-December 2006. This closure is due to safety concerns arising from rock fall mitigation work to be conducted by the Colorado Department of Transportation.

During the closure, rafting, kayaking, tubing and fishing will be prohibited. Violators may be issued a summons for a class 2 petty offense, punishable by a fine of one hundred dollars.

All activities will be allowed on Saturdays, Sundays and during the Thanksgiving Day weekend.

Jim Shires is the public information officer for Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.
