Plane lands on I-70


A Cessna 340 five-seat passenger plane made an emergency
landing on I-70 on Oct. 10 and according to Trooper Gilbert Mares there were no

injuries. All lanes of I-70 were reopened for vehicular travel at 3 p.m. and
FAA officials were contacted and will lead the investigation.

The pilot of this emergency landing has been identified as David Kunkel, 62
of Meeker. Kunkel was traveling solo from Denver International Airport
to Meeker and experienced sudden mechanical failure from the engine
compartment and conducted the emergency landing.

The plane was being towed from the interstate to a safe location for further

investigation.
