Fatal crash on westbound I-70 mile marker 231 / Highway 40.
On April 1 at approximately 2:15a.m. CSP was notified of a body in
the roadway on westbound I-70.
CSP investigators have determined that a 1992 Ford Explorer traveling
westbound on I-70 lost control, rolled at least 1 1/2 times ejecting the
driver who was not wearing his seat belt. The driver was the only occupant
of the vehicle.
We have evidence that at least three other westbound vehicles ran over the
body. One vehicle, a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero believed to be the second
vehicle to run over the body also rolled and crashed. None of the others
stopped. One driver called to report rocks on the road.
Due to the nature of this crash and investigation westbound I-70 had to be
closed at U.S. 40. Traffic was then diverted into U.S 40.
Westbound I-70 has now re-opened (7:15 AM).
An update will follow.
