A Suite Sure Would Be Sweet!
Contributed by: Debbie McClung on 7/18/2007

I have had so many blessings in my life that I get my kicks from looking out for others and using the power of the written word to contribute when the opportunity arises. I write letters of commendation and appreciation for co-workers and service providers, job recommendations for teens and college grads, character references to judges for those in scrapes.....and I've even won a deserving friend a $12,000 "smile makeover" offered by a local dentist!

So I am entering this fabulous contest for an Evergreen couple who really deserve the Coors Field suite... Marc and Kim Kouzmanoff, whose son became the third baseman for the San Diego Padres this season!

They must be absolutely bursting with pride because making it to the Majors is such a long and uncertain road. If I could secure this suite for them they could invite and honor some of the local coaches, trainers, and mentors who were so instrumental in their son's career from his teen years playing baseball in Evergreen. I imagine the August 27gathering in the suite at Coors Field would be a heartwarming and newsworthy event for Denver/Evergreen, even though the Padres will likely upset our Rockies!

Kevin Kouzmanoff wrestled and played football and baseball at Evergreen High School, graduating in 1999. He was drafted by the Indians organization out of University of Nevada/Reno and was named WAC player of the Year in 2003. He made history last fall when he was called up from the minors. He hit a grand slam on the first pitch in his first major league plate appearance, becoming the first American League player to hit a grand slam in his debut!! He also homered in his second game the next day, becoming only the third Indians player ever to homer in his first two games!

I follow Kevin and the Padres every day in the Denver Post, imagining the pride his parents must feel (and the worry and concern about possible injuries and the inevitable slumps and struggles!). Being the recipients of this twelve-person suite would give them the chance to host and thank some of the many Evergreeners who have supported Kevin's dream of making it "ALL THE WAY"!

Evergreen can be proud that one of our hometown boys is in the Major Leagues and can be seen playing third base for the San Diego Padres August 27 at Coors Field. Please consider giving Marc and Kim Kouzmanoff the suite, and covering the event for the newspaper!
