Annual Helping Kids Thrive a Success
Over 150 Parents & Caregivers Attend Free Parenting Conference
WHEAT RIDGE - Each year Jefferson Center for Mental Health collaborates with Jeffco Public Schools, Jefferson County Administrators Association, Jefferson Count District Attorney's Office and other community agencies to put on a free conference to help and support parents and caregivers with the tough job of parenting. The 2009 conference was a huge success with over 150 attendees.
There was something for everyone, with knowledgeable speakers discussing all ages and issues from infancy to teenage years, and topical classes like Techno-Savvy Parenting and Empowering Successful Kids.A variety of community organizations were also on hand to provide information at resource tables. The workshops and classes provided hands-on parenting skills and practical tips for raising kids of all ages and a range of subjects, including trauma, depression and resiliency.
When describing the conference, attendees said:
"Good handouts and resource tables."
"One the most entertaining speakers I have seen."
"It was so much fun.Made you think and relate!"
"This is an awesome outreach program for families."
"Thank you for having such an informative class, put together really well.I will be back next year."
"I got great ideas from both the instructor and other parents in the room."
Helping Kids Thrive was started in 1990 by a coalition of community organizations concerned about the high incidence of youth suicide and the prevalence of destructive behaviors. The conference is for parents with children of all ages - from infants to teenagers. It's also for adults who are concerned about the positive development of infants and children in their lives.
Helping Kids Thrive is presented by Jefferson Center for Mental Health thanks to funding by Jefferson County Education Association and sponsorships from Jefferson County Administrators Association, Jeffco Public Schools Students Services, Safe & Drug Free Schools and Communities Program, Jefferson County PTA, Parents and Community Coming Together, Jefferson County Department of Health & Environment, Jeffco Credit Union, The Jefferson Foundation, and St. Anthony Central Hospital.
