Tuesday night I was at the Avalanche game. Many rows ahead of my husband and I, sat John Elway and two of his kids.
John was there because he had donated a dinner for a lucky Avs fan. The presentation went well, but it was evident that Av fan that won the prize of dinner for ten at his restaurant, and club level seats for a hockey game that followed, was more excited about meeting John Elway.
When John and his kids returned to their seats, they were constantly being bothered by people wanting to share their thoughts, give their opinions, and hope for the occasional 'high five.'
I thought about how much joy this man has brought this town. From his amazing drive down the field to beat the Cleveland Browns in 1986. Or his whirly bird dive against the Packers that totally ignited the team.
I imagined what a pain it would be to go out in Denver, constantly being bothered and harrassed. So I thought, the Broncos will win the AFC Championship game this Sunday, so that Jake Plummer can assume the role of sports legend around here. With that title, Jake can then be bothered and interrupted every time he goes out on the town.
Besides, Jake is a easy going guy, he can handle it....
