Yoga for Pregnancy - The Benefits


You are an expecting mom - congratulations! That is wonderful news. As your baby develops and grows you become extra-aware of how important it is to take good care of yourself - physically and mentally. What makes you healthier will make baby healthier. Be sure to take time to enjoy this amazing time of transition and growth. Take time to focus on you and to find your center. One excellent way to do this is through prenatal yoga.

What is prenatal yoga?

Prenatal yoga is designed for expecting mothers. Postures are designed to be safe for both mom and baby.

Yoga creates balance between the muscles, joint and skeletal systems, which are experiencing misalignment, compression, fatigue and soreness from pregnancy. Yoga postures provide compressed organs with gentle massage, realignment, additional space and increased oxygen for optimal function. Yoga can also be very beneficial for relieving the many digestive discomforts that come with pregnancy.

Practicing gentle yogic breath helps create a sense of calm, which is helpful for challenging moments of pregnancy as well as for labor. The movement and breath work in yoga support a healthy cardiovascular system, by increasing circulation and gently working the heart and lungs. Yoga is good for quieting the mind, helping to create a sense of stability, balance and energy.
