The second annual Stingers Soccer Club "Just For Fun" 8 v 8 Invitational Tournament was held at the Marshdale fields on Aug. 9 and 10.
Thirty seven teams of boys and girls ages U10-U18 from throughout the Denver Metro area including five teams consisting of refugees and Denver inner city youth from Soccer Dreams Without Borders participated in the two-day event.
The teams representing SDWB included refugees from several countries in Africa and Burma many of whom have only been in the U.S. for a few months.
Several Evergreen High School Varsity Boys Soccer Players were on hand to collect hundreds of donated soccer gear including cleats, balls, uniforms and shin pads that eventually will be given to young soccer players throughout the world and those less fortunate who are living in the Denver area.
The uniforms being worn by the players in the attached photos are uniforms donated by the EHS boys varsity team. The three components of SDWB is to provide soccer equipment to those in need, emphasize education as a link to soccer and the third component is to encourage young players to make the right lifestyle choices.
Special events that were a part of the 8 v 8 tournament included a spirited parent versus coaches charity soccer game that was well attended and a delicious barbecue hosted by the Evergreen Stingers Soccer Club.
