The i9 Sports flag football league in Conifer concluded its nine-week season last Sunday with beautiful weather and a full slate of exciting games, followed by Anthony's Pizza, snacks, trophies, and medals for all players. The league began playing games in early September at Conifer High School. The spring season will commence in late March or early April.
In the 6-8 age division, the Bruins, coached by the enthusiastic Paul Graziano, and the Mustangs, led by the equally upbeat Troy Alders, tied for the best records and then proceeded to meet for the championship, with the Mustangs prevailing, 42-20. The Wizards, coached by Robb McGuffin, took third-place with an 18-6 victory over Todd Wagner's Tigers.
The Terrors, coached by Joe Ferry, figured to be huge favorites to take the older division crown, having gone 6-0 in the regular season, but Pete Bell's Grizzlies thought otherwise. The teams battled into overtime before the Terrors pulled out a thrilling 48-42 triumph. Another exciting playoff contest saw Anthony Rodriguez's Hawks squeak by the Predators, coached by Mike Wampler, 28-20.
Tehra Porterfield, Conifer High School's cheerleading coach, led a dozen girls to learn new cheering techniques and to boost the players on the flag football fields. Their adorable cheers and well-run halftime shows added to the fun for all of the families.
