You couldn't ask for a better weather day in November on which to complete the inaugural i9 Sports flag football season in Conifer.
Each team played two games in the end-of-season tournament at Conifer H.S. Afterward, all of the players received trophies and medals, and enjoyed great pizza from Anthony's Pizza in the Conifer Town Center, as well as a variety of other snacks. It was a super way to finish off a successful season.
In the 6-to-8 age division, the semi-finals saw an exciting offensive battle in which the Bearcats, coached by
Sandy Brook, prevailed over the Scott Sabina-coached Dragons, 32-24, while the Sharks, led by
Doug Griffin, downed
Rick Wilson's Hornets team, 28-6. The Bearcats doubled their pleasure by scoring 32 points again while yielding just 12 in the championship game victory over the Sharks. In the consolation game, the Dragons squeaked by the Hornets 24-20.
The 9-to-14 age division semi-finals featured the Owls, coached by Tim Studer, soaring past the Thunderhawks, led by
William Probeck, 26-18, while the Bobcats, coached by Hans Kronemeyer, beat
Pete Bell's Rattlers squad, 32-13. The title game was a one-sided tilt as the Owls topped the Bobcats 50-20, and in the consolation game, the Rattlers edged the Thunderhawks, 14-12.
