"Make a life list!"
If you knew with complete certainty that you were going to
take your last breath tomorrow what would you do? Would you call
all of your loved ones? Would you make amends? Would you spend some
time thinking about everything you wish you had done in your life?
We all have dreams and visions of what we will do "someday". The
fact is that we have no idea what tomorrow will bring, the past is
gone, the only thing for sure is the here and now. Why not take
some time writing down what you have always dreamed of
accomplishing in your life. This is not a list of your "shoulds",
such as I should lose weight, I should start exercising more, I
should stop smoking. This is your
think big list of activities or dreams that have taken a back burner
in your life. Have you dreamed of scaling a fourteener for as long
as you can remember? When are going to stop talking about it and
start planning it? Some of you are good at making lists like these,
but the lists either make their way to the bottom of piles or you
look at them every so often and dream away. How amazing would it
feel to actually commit to and achieve these items on your list?
How rewarding would it be? How would you or your life be different
as a result of crossing these activities off your list? Just take a
moment and think about it before brushing it aside again.
ACTION TIPS FOR THE WEEK:
1. Make your list
Throw away all of your old lists. Create a new "life
list" of all the things you intend to achieve in this lifetime.
Have fun with this list, dream big. You are you biggest obstacle
when it comes to making it happen. You are the only one that can
plan, research and follow through on your dreams.
2. Break it down
Looking at this list and knowing where you are in your life
today, pick a couple items that you would like to accomplish this
year. Highlight them and then start detailing a specific plan month
by month to make it happen. Creating a time line of what you need
to do will break it down into manageable steps so you are not so
overwhelmed.
3. Install support structure
It is critical to surround yourself by people and resources
that will help you stick to your goals. Do your homework, research
the details and ask for help making these dreams a reality. Use
your friends and family as accountability partners that will check
in on your progress.
Have a great week!
