Singers break toes, lose passports, enjoy Norway
Contributed by: Lynn Nestingen on 6/26/2006

The Evergreen Chorale touring group began their trip and posted these photos from Norway.

Posted June 19
We performed our first concert last night - and it was a brilliant success! I should start by saying this is Gail Montgomery, the one who lost her passport, $600, and several credit cards in Oslo. Just found out today that I can get my replacement passport in Stockholm, which is a relief.

We are on the bus ride to Bergen - on the west coast of Norway, and we are all a bit queasy from the ride. It's absolutely beautiful along the coast of Southern and Western Norway, and we are enjoying the beauty of the ride, but not the ride...if you know what I mean.
Now, back to the concert.

We arrived in Kristiansand, Norway and settled in to our gorgeous hotel. After a quick respite and some freshening of our faces (plus a new Chorale outfit) we arrived at the Lund church to discover a wonderful surprise. Geoff's friends had prepared us an authentic Norwegian stew, and we ate in earnest before the concert.

The sanctuary was incredibly live and the sound was amazing. Hard to believe it was us.

We sang to around 75 people, and enjoyed kaffe and cake with the church attendees and hosts. We even got to meet our bus driver's wife, Ellen.

Later, some were off for a private tour of the chapel, and others walked along the coast to see the tall ships. Then, 10 or so ended up at one of the only pubs open for a late night brew and a few laughs. Topics of discussion were many, but few as interesting as the gummi candies Amy found shaped like a woman's body parts...I will let you guess which part.

The people are so friendly. The food is rich in meat and cheese and fish. The land is rugged and rocky at times and rolling green hills at others. Geoff is a wonderful host and tour leader. We are all very blessed.

On another note, I will be getting my passport (temporary) in the fabulous city of Stockholm - and will be allowed to come home accepted as a US citizen. That horrific event is behind me and I am happy to say that I am enjoying the trip anyway!.

Love to you all - and we will continue to send you notes from the road.
Tusen Takk to all of you for your thoughts and prayers.
Gail

Another day of driving to Bergen, 8 hours on a swerving hilly bus trip. To say a few members did not fair well with the motion sickness. Can you say pass me a barf bag.

Well sounds like the Montgomery clan is not fairing to well. We think Peter has some busted toes on his cast foot. Betsy lost her balance and fell backwards over Peter's foot and bent them backwards.

Ok back to the incident reports.

Incident 1
With it being cloudy and rainy today, not good picture taking weather, to bad because today was our Fiord ride across the water on the ship transport. Well this person had taken his video camera off the bus to take some pictures. After we had left the ship they realized that they might have left it on the ship. Called the ship lines to see if anyone turned in a camera, still waiting to hear.

Incident 2
With all the electronic gadgets this person is carrying around they found that power strips seems to like to blow the hotel fuse boxes. Even tho they have a converter it can only handle one unit at a time. Actually they have been given the name " the walking radio shack."

I know we have promised pictures and next transmission or two we will have some on there. Especially those that were caught showing how excited they have been on this trip.

Take care,
Noredenark

A note from Jill Quedenfeld

Brief greetings. Although the sun is still out, it's almost midnight and I'm tired.

We drove eight hrs today and drove onto two ferrys and went up top for the ride but got into the bus and drove off the ferry. It was cool! Actually it was cold, and raining. Has been all day. Bergen is a seaport city and gorgeous but very rainy and cold, 50's - 60's.

Dave will write more later but the computer isn't working from our room right now. Our concert in Kristiansand went very well. The acoustics were phenomenal. A lot of people want me to record my next album there just for the echo. <it was gorgeous.

Peter broke 3 toes today when Betsy tripped and landed on them wrong. we need lots of prayers for the Montgomery's on this trip. Good grief! Or, as we discovered today, someone needs to feed their trolls. Their trolls are wreaking havoc on them and need some attention and feeding so they'll go to sleep and quit causing a ruckus.

Mike may have lost him camera and Gail lost her sunglasses. But otherwise, we're having a great time and representing the community well despite our indigent nature. Geoff is tirelessly blazing the trails and always cheerful.
