Plowed Over.......Not!
Contributed by: Kevin Platts   on 12/22/2006

Did anyone else have the enviable job of going Christmas shopping today? With two days lost to the blizzard, I awoke today and knew it was going to be nuts, but I have to admit I was amazed by how busy it was out there.

Even though the roads were decent, I still assumed a lot of people wouldn't be able to get around and that it wouldn't be that busy. I realized today just how many people have 4-wheel drives. Seems like just about everyone has one.

Even with all the crowds, I wasn't too overwhelmed. I thought things ran rather smoothly.

The biggest disappointment of the day came at the very end of the day. Like I said, I was relatively pleased with my shopping experience, so you can imagine how upset I got when I pulled into the parking lot at Walmart in Parker. Talk about absolutely no plowing. There weren't many "real" parking slots, just a bunch of people parallel parking in the lanes.

Now, I understand that Walmart probably has a hard time plowing when there are cars in the parking lot, but it seems like a much better job was needed than the one I observed when I got there. Of course, because the parking lot was so screwed up, once I was done and left the store, I had an even bigger headache. The "lanes" were so bad, no one could really get out of the parking lot. So, a journey that normally takes about 2 minutes, ended up taking 20. I thought that was ridiculous.

Seems to me that if a large corporation is going to open it's doors to customers, then they have a responsibility to ensure those customers have a place to park and can safely navigate the parking lot. I am all for "big business," but I also believe those bg businesses need to take care of their customers to ensure they remain customers.

I'm sure all teh plows were out clearing the roadways. Once you're in the lot, you're on your own.
