17 th Annual La Raza Youth Leadership Conference

Unite La Raza: Es Nuestro Future (It's our Future)

Saturday, April 26 at Auraria Campus

Denver, CO- La Raza Youth Leadership Institute (LRYLI) is hosting the 17 th Annual Conference, Unite La Raza: Es Nuestro Futuro on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Auraria Campus. The conference provides a full-day of workshops directed at Latino youth grades 6-12. Participants have the opportunity to explore "hands on" style workshops conducted by ethnically diverse professionals from the public, private and nonprofit sectors. The conference showcases a keynote speaker, a variety of local talent and an education fair featuring colleges, universities and other educational institutions. Several Youth Awards and college scholarships are also presented during the closing ceremony.

"Our organization is proud to host this youth leadership conference for the 17 th year. We feel it's important for our youth to succeed in our communities but to also understand how our culture plays a huge role in who we are as leaders," said Yessica Holguin, 2007-2008 LRYLI Chair. "The workshops we are offering will challenge our youth to think about their future and plan for it. They will also highlight our rich culture. We want to empower our youth to make their dreams a reality by being proud of where they come from."

Workshops for Unite La Raza: Es Nuestro Destino will fit into four different tracks including Careers, Cultural Awareness, Self Awareness and Leadership. The cost of the conference is $25 after April 12.

The La Raza Youth Leadership Conference attracts over1,500 students from all over Colorado and was developed to empower Latino youth to achieve their educational and leadership potential and instill the desire to give back to the community.
