Yours Truly, YourHub Blog author Tanya Ishikawa, was appointed last night to lead the city of Federal Heights for a day plus three. Due to the mayor and mayor pro tem leaving town for a conference, I was appointed by council as Acting Mayor Pro Tem of Federal Heights for Tuesday, June 17 to Friday, June 20.
This week is the annual conference of the Colorado Municipal League, an organization that lobbies for cities and towns and provides training and consultation for local government employees and officials. So, a group from Federal Heights including City Manager David Blanchard, Mayor Joyce Thomas, Mayor Pro Tem Richard Steele, and two other council members went up to Steamboat Springs for some education and networking.
For those of us left back at home, here's our chance to change the city in a blink of an eye. Let's call an emergency meeting with the only three council members left in town and get those progressive ideas put into local law. Quick: give me your best and most timely ideas for change- time is limited.
Just kidding! I just wanted to have a little fun with this small honor that has been bestowed upon me. It's not everyday that you get to lead a city. I truly appreciated the vote to put me in charge for these four days. I jest but I do take it seriously.
But, really, if you happen to see me on the streets or sidewalks or at Water World or City Hall, feel free to tell me what you would like to see happening in the city and how I can help. I may not get it done during my brief tenure as Acting Mayor Pro Tem, but I can make note of it, share it with council and consider how to do it in the future.
