Sheriff Doug Darr and the Adams County Sheriff's Office are proud to announce "Operation Free Bird" will be held on November 10, 2007, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m, at 6350 North Federal Boulevard, across the street from Rocky's Auto.
For some low-income families the holiday season can be difficult and in some cases, impossible. With that in mind, the Adams County Sheriff's Office has teamed with local businesses and members of our community to assist the families in Adams County, by providing them with a certificate for a free turkey for the holidays.
Sheriff Darr observed, "To know there are families that are financially unable to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner is troubling. It gives everyone involved a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction to know that a turkey dinner will be a reality for each family we are able to help."
In 2006, we were able to provide 3,500 gift certificates to families needing assistance. With the increasing financial difficulties many families are experiencing we have increased our goal to assisting 4,000 families. If you would like to and are fortunate enough to be able to contribute to this effort, please send your donation to "Operation Free Bird, c/o the Adams County Sheriff's Office, 332 North 19th Avenue, Brighton, Colorado 80260". All donations need to be received by Friday, October 26, 2007.
Additionally, local restaurants will be providing free samples; there will be displays that include information about opening a small business, career guidance, banking, insurance, real estate and self-help. There is going to be entertainment for kids and adults, and fire, police and military personnel will be there. We invite the public to join us in celebrating as a community.
