Candidate Profile: Joyce Thomas
Contributed by: Joyce Thomas on 10/10/2007

My name: Joyce Thomas

Age: 55

My family: I have been married to Harold Thomas for 34 years. We have no children. I have family in Colorado. A majority of my husband's family lives in Minnesota.

What I do: I am a CPA (Certified Public Accountant), working part-time & seasonal (tax season), and I manage our used car dealership - A-OK Motors in Federal Heights.

My favorite place in town to hang out: I don't typically "hang out", but a few of my favorite local restaurants are: Pho 88 House of Noodles, Panda Express, Spicy Pickle, and Memories.

What I like most about living here: I like the small town feel of Federal Heights.

My interests and hobbies: I just picked up knitting again about a year ago, after nearly 20 years. I love to travel, take pictures, and spend time with family.

What is my favorite thing to cook: Homemade hashbrown potatoes, eggs, bacon and cheese for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

People who inspired me (and how): My maternal Grandfather was an inspiration to me. He became a community business leader with high regard from the whole community, with only an eighth grade education. He was a self made man.

How I have contributed to the community: I have been active in the Federal Heights community for about 13 years. I have served on the Federal Heights Day committee and 5 years on Planning & Zoning. I was elected to and served on the Home Rule Charter Commission. Then was elected in 2001 for City Council and re-elected in 2005. I currently treasurer for Colorado Women in Government, and assistance treasurer for Greater Metropolitan Telecommunication Consortium..

What are the biggest issues facing your city now: The biggest issues facing Federal Heights are water supply, rising costs of contracted services - road maintenance, water & sewer line maintenance, and costs of ambulance service.
