Candidate Profile: Mike Vallero
Contributed by: Mike Vallero on 10/10/2007

My name: Mike Vallero

Age: 47 years old

My Family: I am married to JoAnn, we have two daughters, Julie and Jennifer. We also consider our three dogs Peaches, Boogie, and Frankie to be family as well.

What I do:
I am the maintenance/facilities manager at Microsemi Corporation in Broomfield. I have worked there for 30 years.

My favorite place in town to hang out:
My favorite place in town to go is the Parkway Cafe. There are a lot of people who think the same thing and it sometimes gets busy, but it is always a nice place to relax and have some good food. The owners Nick, Angel and James are three of the nicest people I know and they really do take care of one of the few community gathering spots in Federal Heights.

What I like most about living here:
I like living in Federal Heights because of the small town feeling. However, a small town has a lot of trouble competing economically with our big city neighbors. This makes the thing we like most about our town its biggest challenge.

My interests and hobbies:
My interests are the outdoors and recreation. I enjoy walking and biking in the cities parks and on our bike paths and trails. I think every person should have access to quality recreation facilities. This is why I insist the city make improving our Parks and Trail system a priority.

What is my favorite thing to cook:
My favorite thing to cook is anything on a barbecue rotisserie. I recently added one to my 10 year old gas grill and it has given it a whole new life. So far, even the things I have accidentally burned have ended up being delicious.

People who inspried me (and how):
I have been inspired by the local elected officials I have met from the Southern United States. Their grass roots insight and the genuine bond they have with their communities during very difficult economic times is absolutely amazing.

How I have contributed to the community:
I have contributed to our community through civic leadership for the last 12 years. My time as a Council Member and member of the Planning and Zoning Commission has given me good insight into the problems facing Federal Heights, as well as some possible solutions.

What are the biggest issues facing your city now:
The biggest issue facing Federal Heights will always be economic. How we will continue to enjoy the level of services we enjoy, and how to pay for them. We must also find a way within that struggle to steadily improve the quality of life for our citizens.
