Candidate Profile: Michael Cieszlak
Contributed by: Michael Cieszlak on 10/18/2007

My name: Michael A. Cieszlak (Candidate, City Council Ward 3)

Age: 54

My family: Wife of 25 years Mary Ann, stepdaughters Michelle and Marcysons-in-law Jake and Joe, grandchildren Whitney, Joseph, Sagan and Jessica, mother (86 years old), 6 sisters, 3 brothers, 18 nephews and nieces.

What I do: IBEW Local 68 journeyman electrician

My favorite place in town to hang out: Hilltop Gardens, especially the flowers/plants, great earthy scents and fresh produce.

What I like most about living here: The friendliness and diversity of Federal Heights. It's a great working class city.

Interests and hobbies: I enjoy photographing Colorado landscapes, gardening and big game hunting.

What is my favorite think to cook? Anything on the grill

People who inspired me (and how): My Dad (Bernie) and Mom (Dorothy). Dad somehow balanced supporting Mom and 10 kids with being active in the church and always being there for us. Mom, who, despite health issues of her own, has been a hospital volunteer for more than 25 years.

How I have contributed to the community: For the past several years my main focus has been on my large extended family, helping raise two stepdaughters and a granddaughter. This has led to active support of the Komen Race for the Cure, and to volunteer work remodeling the home of a young disabled woman to make it handicap accessible.

Now that the girls are grown it's time to follow my parents' example and expand my focus to the community as a whole by running for city council.

What are the biggest issues facing your city now? 1. The fiscal stability challenges of a land locked city. 2. The ability to recruit and maintain the best qualified police and fire personnel to insure a safe city for its residents. 3. Safe entrances to the city's mobile home communities.
