Mike Sweeney is running for mayor of Federal Heights
Name:
Mike Sweeney
Age:
51
My family:
My family consists of my wife of 30 years, Elaine, daughter Lacey who is a school teacher and her husband Dan who is a Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff, daughter Melissa, a dental hygienist and her husband Chad who owns and manages his own restaurant, and my son Elmer who is self employed and also works for Comcast, my seven year old grandson Declan and his sister/brother who is due any day.
What I do:
I work for the Department of Corrections and am self-employed with my general contracting company, Sweeney Construction & maintenance.
My favorite place to hang out:
My favorite place to hang out is home because we always have company, be it our children, nieces, nephews, or friends.
What I like most about living here:
I enjoy the small town atmosphere of Federal Heights. The small community enables me to interact with more people and seems to be friendlier than larger cities. Federal Heights is centrally located and is close to everything.
My interests and hobbies:
I enjoy automotive restoration, camping, fishing, and boating.
What is my favorite thing to cook:
My favorite things to cook are chili and spaghetti.
Who inspired me (and how):
My parents inspired me by working hard and always making time and having the patience needed to raise seven sons.
How I have contributed to the community:
I have contributed to the community by serving on the planning and zoning board of Federal Heights for five years, being on City council for eight years, serving on the board of adjustment for the city of Federal Heights, and being on the Adams County Open Space Board.
What are the biggest issues facing your city (or district) now:
The biggest issues facing Federal Heights are improving the infrastructure, quality water supplies, the unsafe entrances into and out of the mobile home communities, and the need to retain existing businesses and generate revenue base for the city.
