Denver, Colo.: The Regis University men's soccer team dominated Eastern New Mexico in route to a 2-1 win. Head coach Keith Tiemeyer earned his first victory in his head coaching career. The win improves RU's record to 1-1-0 overall while the Greyhounds drop to 1-1-0 on the season.
Once again the Rangers got on the board early. After ENMU goalkeeper made back to back saves sophomore Sam DePetro (Littleton, Colo.) found freshmen Nathan Kafer's (Erie, Colo.) rebound and scored his first goal as a Ranger.
Despite a clear dominance on the offensive end, RU had 20 shots to just 4 for the Greyhounds, ENMU found the back of the net just past the halfway point in the first half. Keith Vargas and Jared Morris' two man passing game tied the game up at 1-1.
RU had many chances but it wasn't until the second half when freshmen Sterling Copeland (Westminster, Colo.) found freshmen Nathan Kafer for his first collegiate goal to give Regis the win.
Kafer finished the game with 7 shots, five of which were one goal, one goal and assist.
Regis will remain at home as they host crosstown rival Metro State on August 31, kick off is at 5:00 pm.
