Autumn Hike to Elk Point, Part 1
Contributed by: Jo Castillo on 8/22/2008

What:
This hike is to an area of the East Canyon Preservation Area that is closed to the public. Access to this area of the Park is only via Naturalist guided hikes. Join GOCO Interpreter Ron Claussen as he ventures to Elk Point, a spot in the Park known for elk activity. Trees have been used to rub the velvet off of bull antlers. As many as 50 cows have been seen making their way to Cherry Creek to get a refreshing drink of water. On the way check out Longs Peak, Mt. Evans and Pikes Peak, will they be snow covered? There are no trails therefore wear good hiking shoes. You may wish to bring your camera and water. Meet at the Visitor Center. Call 303-688-5242 to let us know you are coming.
