Transitions: Plains to Canyon II
Contributed by: Jo Castillo on 8/22/2008

What:
How was Castlewood Canyon formed? How did water, flowing on the mainly flat eastern plains, begin to carve the canyon we now know? Join Volunteer Naturalist Ben Parker as we hike south to Prairie Canyon Ranch and explore the transition of Cherry Creek from plains to canyon. We'll examine the topography and geology where Castlewood Canyon begins and follow the Southern end of the canyon as it deepens and narrows. This hike is almost entirely off-trail. Stream crossings, light bushwhacking, and some rock scrambling are possible. Dress accordingly. Bring a lunch or trail snacks and water. Meet at the Visitor Center. Please reserve your place for this hike by calling 303-688-5242. Adults only, please. No Pets.
Limit 12.

Where: Castlewood Canyon State Park
When: 10:00am – 2:00pm
