Adam Balsick used to ask his dad, " What are you going to do with all that stuff in the barn?" "You will see when I retire".
In 1992, that question was answered when the first WINDMILL was erected on the property .
Grampa Balsick "Babba" tells the Model A groups the first
two were from grandparents on each side of the family dating back to 1889.
The
Balsick family invited two Model A clubs to experience more than a dozen plus restored Windmills. The
Pikes Peak cluband the
Rocky Mountain Model A Club of Franktownspent the late morning touring the property.
Each family member added somthing to the family hobby.
Kathy, Adam's wife does photography and
Adam uses the digital mode to downsize and reproduce smaller models of the "Mills". Grandson
Garrett, has his collection of "model" windmills displayed.
He tells of the "model" he helped his mom make for show and tell when he was in the first grade. He won another one as the "prize" at a trade fair . A neighbor hand made one for him out of barbed-wire.
The collection is varied as to kinds and places where they were obtained.
Nearby Falcon, Calhan, Simla, accross the street, and as far away as Nebraska, Kansas, and Minnesota. The computer age has helped them find one on EBAY all the way from Michigan.
There is a trade -fair circuit they follow and watch for.
The
Balsicks' treated the Model A-ers to hot coffee and homemade cookies. The spring winds and the sun was trying to peek out to offer a very special
Prairie treat for everyone who came.
