Celebrate with traditional Irish music in the Historic Stone Chapel
at Christ's Church, March 17 at 5:00 PM
CASTLE ROCK - And now for something completely different, as the Monty Python troupe used to say...This Saturday, amidst the hubbub of parades and pubs, you're invited to celebrate St Patrick's Day at Christ's Church Evensong service. Enjoy the timeless, ethereal sound of chant and the vibrant, rich tones of our five-rank, custom-designed 1974 Layton chapel organ -- the only pipe organ in Douglas County -- in the beautiful setting of our historic l00-year old stone chapel.
Evensong, long part of our Anglican/Episcopal heritage, is simply sung evening prayer. It traditionally incorporates some of the beautiful medieval chant melodies and more recent music. The service will be followed by thirty minutes of Pipe Organ Reflections, including traditional Irish songs, dances and folk music. Selections will include, "
St. Patrick's Day in the Morning, Ave Maria von Arcadelt, Killarney, O Danny Boy " (Londonderry Aire), and end with a soul-stirring
"Irish Eyes" St. Patrick's Day medley, arranged by Christ's Church music director Kathy Mordeaux.
So, whether you come for a respite from the day's activities, to connect with and be inspired by the tradition of Evensong, or to celebrate St. Patrick in our historic chapel with its time-honored, pipe organ music, you are welcome. This Evensong service, with its lively Irish melodies, is particularly suitable for all ages. You and your families are welcome to stay for light refreshments after the Evensong in Bowen Hall.
Free and open to the public; donations are welcome.
About Christ's Episcopal Church
Christ's Episcopal Church welcomes everyone into the transformational power of God's unconditional love. Now entering the second century of our journey of faith, we offer a rich array of services, both traditional and contemporary, in our 100-year-old chapel and our new sanctuary. We are located at 615 Fourth Street, between Cantril and Lewis, in historic Castle Rock. You are warmly invited to join us for the Reflective Eucharist, a meditative, intimate service, usually with minimal music, at 8:00 am each Sunday. Or, at 10:30, celebrate the Festive Eucharist, a joyful family-oriented service where our worship is amplified by a diverse range of music for voice and instrument...including our glorious Steinway piano. We offer Sunday School and adult education beginning at 9:30, and children's activities -- some in our new play area, The Children's Place -- during the 10:30 service. Everyone is welcome to experience Christ's love by embracing the Wonder in all through prayer, study, service and play. Please call our church office at (303) 688-5185 or visit our website at
