County fair board calls for contest participants


The Douglas County Fair and Rodeo Board welcomes young and old to enter the 2009 Arts, Crafts and Culinary Contests as part of the annual Douglas County Fair and Rodeo.

"It's free, it's fun and it's for everyone," said Douglas County Commissioner, Parker resident and Fair Board member, Jack Hilbert . "We hope these contests will inspire our community to dust off their favorite recipe, enter their prized craft or art project and have fun with this 100-year-old community tradition."

Contests include those for Baked Goods, Quilts, Photography, Fine Arts, Ceramics, Crafts, Canned Goods, Needle Crafts and one group just for Seniors (55+). Special contest categories for Grades K-12, Adults and Seniors (55+) also available.

Contest participant check-in is on Sunday, August 2 from Noon - 4:00 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds & Event Center in Castle Rock.

Judging is on Monday, August 3 and is closed for all departments, however, the quilt judging is open to the public, begins at 9:00 a.m., and will conclude when all quilts are judged.

Exhibits open to the public on Wednesday, August 5 at Noon and will remain open each day until close on Sunday, August 9.

Items and winning premiums must be picked up on Sunday, August 9 from 4:00 until 5:30 p.m.
