Snow isn't too much of a hassle for me. It's a natural occurence during winter and shouldn't be a surprise for any Colorado resident. I guess what really gets me during this season are the obstacles I have to face to do daily tasks.
For one thing, I know the
city is hard at work clearing the streets and having enough plows out there to make it easier for drivers to get around. The next thing they should do is clear the sidewalks for pedestrians who don't have a car or prefer walking to get to work or do their shopping.
I am one of those people. I walk everyday to the Belleview light rail station from my DTC apartment, which takes me about 15 minutes at a regular pace and 10 minutes if I power walk it. The trek itself is nothing; I just take a shortcut behind my apartment to get to the station.
But yesterday, I was having a heck of a time walking around the area near Yale Avenue because none of the sidewalks had been shoveled. I tried my best to follow the footsteps of previous hikers, but alas! When the trail ended, I had to pave my own way.
I finally gave up attempting to walk in knee-deep snow and decided to brave the streets. Cars were pretty considerate of my presence; some slowed down, others tried to swerve further to the left to avoid hitting me. But there were some that just sped on by as though I was deliberately trying to get in the way.
Well, the
Rocky Mountain News reported another storm is heading our way this week. I'm praying I'll be able to get to work OK. Here's to hoping the sidewalks will be shoveled by then. Geronimo!
