Blog Entry 107 of 112 GreatAmericanBlog
This is a blog designed to be a conduit for a broad range of Colorado bloggers who have something to say - on current events, society in general, even some creative writing. I cover Southeast and Southwest Denver in general, so I'll write a lot about those areas, and would like to hear from folks there too. But I'll range widely in the creative sense, and you should too. So hit the keyboard and start blogging! Daniel Smith

Garden tomatoes are here already
Contributed by: Daniel Smith/YourHub.com   on 6/30/2008

It was fine-tasting, I want you to know.
Small, but juicy and with the flavor - a slight tang and sweet - that tells you it's homegrown. The first tomato of the year, from my plants.

This is an update on my earlier gardening blog. The three still-small tomato plants are doing well, though they sometimes look a little parched (more watering?) and small for their age (should I be feeding more?) But I have already enjoyed two tomatoes - two! (I should have taken photos to post)

Both came from the new variety I tried this year, the Fourth of July tomato plant - probably so named because you can expect fruit to consume by the holiday, don't you think? My only 'secret' is I'm using a limited amount of coffee grounds around the plants about twice a week.

The other 'newbie' in the south side garden this year - the tomatillo plant, is taller than one of the tomato plants, but bears only blossoms, not fruit so far.

Lee's eggplants are also doing well, though somewhat obscured by the other nearby plants, and I frankly have not checked on her nearby pepper plant lately.

That's my update, garden enthusiasts, and if any of you have gardening stories, tips (maybe you have suggestions to make my efforts a bumper crop this year) and your own successes and failures to pass along, we'd love to see you post them here on YourHub.com. I invite you to tell the story.
Go ahead, green thumbs, impress us. Don't forget (like I did) to include some photographs of your garden.
