Victim of dragging death identified

Dougas County Coroner Wesley Riber has formally identified the victim of Monday's gruesome dragging death in the Surrey Ridge subdivision. Her name is Luz Maria Franco-Fierros, age 49, of Glendale. Franco-Fierros was the alleged girlfriend of suspect Jose Luis Rubi-Nava, 36, who is held on suspicion of first-degree murder in the case.

Ribertold YourHub.com that formal notification of her death was made yesterday to the family of Franco-Fierros in Mexico, but no arrangements for her body have yet been made.

The Rocky Mountain News reports Rubi-Nava had lived in an apartment with his brother in Castle Rock until four months ago, and was sharing an apartment in Glendale with Franco-Fierros, a family friend of hers and another male roommate.

Franco-Fierros was dragged more than a mile behind a vehicle on Surrey road early Monday, her multilated body left by the side of the road. Makeshift memorials have been left at the scene

At a news conference Wednesday, Douglas County Sheriff David Weaver identified Rubi-Nava as the suspect in custody and thanked the public for calls leading to multiple tips and an arrest in the case, as well as the sheriff's investigators and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Rubi-Nava is also under an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold for possible immigration charges. He was advised of the charges against him in a Douglas County courtroom Wednesday.
