Glendale Police conducted a sting of businesses licensed to sell liquor on April 10 and found no fewer than half in violation. The sting caught three of the six businesses investigated selling alcohol to minors, according to police reports.
Police said the sting, conducted at about 7:30 p.m., was conducted with the help of a 17-year-old intern, whom police furnished with invalid identification. According to police, the identification used had no photo and a date of birth that would have indicated the bearer to be 38-years-old. She was instructed first to attempt to purchase the beer without identification and only to present the faulty ID when asked.
Despite her phony ID, police said the intern was able to purchase beer at Square One Liquors, 4090 E. Mississippi Ave., Leetsdale Liquors, 4996 Leetsdale Drive, and Target, 4301 E. Virginia Ave.
Three other stores, BJ Liquors, 4211 E. Mississippi Ave., and Cherri Mart and Cherri Plaza Liquors, both at 4619 E. Mississippi Ave., refused to sell the minor any alcohol.
