There will be no photos with this blog because I left my camera at home. I was a participant last night in the First SCRAMBOWL at the Golden Bowl. This was, perhaps, the best community gathering in a long time. It was attended by hundreds of people, bowlers and those who came to cheer on their favorite bowlers. I was in the bowler category. Never mind that I haven't bowled since the 1980's. I own a bowling ball so that qualifies me as a bowler.
Our team, SPARE US, was made up of five team members and we were scheduled to start bowling at 5:30 p.m. I found out we were bowling a total of five games. I winced as I thought about my shoulder aching after this event. I was relieved to find out that, although we were bowling five games, each bowler bowled two frames per game. This way of bowling on a team has a name but I didn't catch it. I was just thankful that I would be throwing the ball a maximum of twenty times rather than one hundred times.Whew!
We bowled and I must say we did pretty good. I didn't have any gutter balls. In fact, I had a few strikes and a few spares. Not bad considering the amount of time that passed since I bowled.
We had a great time bowling next to a team from the School of Mines. The problem was they didn't realize that the bowling balls didn't just happen to appear. You had to "hunt" for the right one. It appeared mine was the right one for one particular School of Mines team member.
So, I shared my bowling ball with him. A couple of others on that Mines team seemed to really like the bowling balls we were using because they decided not to "hunt" for a bowling ball either. They thought the ones we were using would be just fine. That worked out well because our team did not have to "hunt" for pitchers of beer. Somehow a pitcher appeared every now and then at our table and we would, now and then, help ourselves to a glass or two. We thought that having pitchers of beer appear now and then was just fine with us.
Everyone had a great time. The bowling, food, community spirit, and fundraising efforts were fun. The event was a success and I am sure we will see South Golden Road sparkle with lights next holiday season.
I don't know the names of the people involved with setting this event up, however, THANK YOU. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by all. Discussion of this event was the highlight of this morning's DowntownGolden Merchants Meeting. Everyone had a fun story to tell about attending the SCRAMBOWL last night. Maybe I will keep my bowling ball out and stop by the Golden Bowl for a game or two, once in awhile. Then again, maybe it will sit in the closet until next year's event. After all, I own the bowling ball, therefore, I am a bowler!
