Help review Monster Joe's new lamp

Pictured at right is the lamp my father, Joe Leonard, bought for his backyard patio in Marshalltown, Iowa. I was talking to him on the phone Sunday night and he told me about the new lamp he bought so he could read the newspaper in his backyard, so I told him to send me a photo of it. I have decided I'm a big fan of the lamp -- it's classy, but not too flashy. Your comments are appreciated.

That is so cool. My great-grandparents were born, raised and died in Marshalltown, Iowa. You must be from Iowa. Me, too.

I've got to say, outdoor lighting is a vastly underappreciated art form, and this is certaintly a masterwork in the form. That said, nothing less than million-candlepower would grace my backyard. I'm talking meter-spinning arena-filling, nose-hair plucking bright. Yeah, that would be sweet.

If he illumiates it, they will come(and read, and chat, and blah, blah, blah). "Can you see the clock from where you're sitting? Some of us have to work tomorrow."

Great lamp Brendan. You dad knows how to spruce up a back yard. I might look around for one of those. Wait a minute. I don't have a back yard.

I think Karen means, "you mean people in Iowa can read?"

You mean, people still read newspapers?

So far as lamps go, this one is a masterpiece. If I ran a publication called Lamps Monthly, Joe's lamp would be on the cover.

Now all you need is a talented child (or midget) do swing around it during a rousing rendition of "Singin' in the Rain." I mean, that's what I'm tempted to do, anyway.

Good lamp, Pop.
