Blog Entry 5 of 7 SWHEATLEY'S Blogging Buffet
Welcome to SWHEATLEY'S Blogging Buffet. Much like a restaurant buffet, here you will be able to get a little of something or a lot of everything. Some days you will be treated to a few words about my thoughts on life. Other days my words will leave you feeling full. Some choices will be thoughts on life. Other days I may review a movie, a restaurant, or a play. You will read about me, my family, my town, and my travels. You may be hungry for more and visit my blog frequently. Then there will be days you are full and decide to stay away from the buffet. Some days will feature a Daily Special. You are invited to my Grand Opening of SWHEATLEY'S BLOGGING BUFFET on Monday, February 12, 2007. See you then!

Clutter-Free.....NOT!
Contributed by: Sharon Wheatley   on 3/9/2007

Why is it that, no matter how hard I try, I cannot get rid of clutter? When I say clutter, I'm talking about the piles of paperwork and magazines that are gathering dust in Rubbermaid bins.

The paperwork has purpose so I cannot just throw the bins away. There is the paperwork to file, the paperwork to read (sooner or later), cards, letters, coupons...the list goes on. The magazines are stored in alphabetical order, by date (latest issue on the bottom), waiting to be read on a lazy kind of day.

Trouble is, I haven't had a lazy kind of day in months. If I'm not grandbabysitting, volunteering, having coffee and conversation, going to the movies, visiting with family and friends, blogging, writing stories for the HUB, or walking along the creek, I'm taking care of our home and the tasks that go along with being home. I guess life is too wonderful to worry about clutter.

On the other hand, I found out that there are professional organizers who will come to your home and take care of clutter for a fee. I would have to organize everything before having someone even begin to go through my clutter.

There was a time when I was clutter-free. It was the day we moved from our house in Littleton to our condo in Golden. We downsized from 3,500 sq. ft. to 1,100 sq.ft. That was almost six years ago so you can imagine the amount of clutter that accumulated over the years.

Actually, it's not that bad. During my carless days in Golden I was able to fill many large Hefty bags with clutter and now our extra bedroom looks twice the size. I've decided that, this year, I will not purchase any books, music, or movies because I am behind in reading, listening to the music I have, and watching movies I already own. The magazines that I get are from friends who are finished reading them. I'm just a bit behind in catching up on reading magazines.

Will there ever come the day when every piece of paper is filed, every magazine read, and I am clutter-free? I will be honest and say, "not a chance." I guess I am too busy living life to the fullest and enjoying each and every day, stopping to smell the roses but not stopping long enough to be clutter-free.

You have never seen clutter until you have seen my son's rooms in the basement of my house where he lives.I love him though.

I had some notes for a blog about clutter somewhere, but I seem to have misplaced them ...

I've attempted to keep a clean and organized apartment, but I later decided on just remembering where everything is kept.

After we managed to jettison no less than two tons of stuff when we left our home of fifteen years in CA to relocate to CO in 2005, I made this solemn vow: For very bag of newly purchased stuff I brought across the threshold of our new home, one bag of old stuff would go to the thrift store. Isn't that a fantastic goal? I'd guess I owe the local thrift store about 387 bags of stuff now.

Sharon, I believe you have made a positive step in embracing the clutter. I read an article recently indicating a backlash against the inisidious Organization Movement, suggesting life is not perfect and we should lighten up about focusing on creating "perfect spaces." I'd send you the info, but it's buried in a stack somewhere.
