Blog Entry 158 of 189 From the mountains to 6th Avenue
Many Evergreeners commute. It's been described as a commuter community. Accurate. So there is an etiquette to commuting. The first rule: Leave early. Even if you depart for a 9 to five job at 6:30 a.m., you will not be alone. If you like being alone on the highway, go to Montana. The second rule: Leave early If you don't get off til 5 p.m., take a book on tape, because you will be sitting in traffic near Federal and 6th, and entertainment of any kind is helpful. There are polite drivers, like me, who let others sneak in, especially in merge lanes. I try. You probably do too. The one thing I have decided that will not happen to me is that I will not be mangled in a car wreck on 6th Avenue or I-70 in either direction. What do you do to keep this promise to yourself?

What's up at Golden City Council?
Contributed by: YourHub.com   on 10/1/2007

It must be the fact that elections are on the horizon that gets Goldenites riled up.

On Sept. 27, the city council amended its agenda to take a vote on whether to appoint special council after city attorney Jim Windholz said councilwoman Mary Weaver was in violation of the ethics code because she borrowed $8,500 to pay attorney bills.

According to Golden public information officer, Sabrina D'Agosta, the city has appointed the city attorney of Wheat Ridge, Gerald Dahl, to investigate the assertion after the Sept. 27 meeting at which five council members were present. Timpeiro and Behm were absent.

Weaver recused herself, so only four voted 4 to 0 to appoint counsel. According to D'Agosta, Weaver pointed to a section of the ethics ordinance that allows someone to take borrow money from another person if the would have done so were they not on council. Weaver reportedly said, "Marian Olson gives lots of people money."

D'Agosta said, "Dahl will review the complaint by our city attorney and see if it is a violation of our code and prosecutable. If so it will be a criminal trial."

D'Agosta said during the meeting, Windholz laid out a list of all the lawsuits Marian Olson has filed against the city over time and what the outcomes were. He also let the council know he was ready to bring a complaint against Olson for inappropriate practice of law, as she was referred to in Weaver's Sept. 11 depostiion as having helped Weaver write up the lawsuit.

Here is the City of Golden's webcast of the Sept. 27 meeting

It could get complicated.

Letter writers to YourHub.com have some opinions. The latest is about VOG.

What's VOG?

I guess most people in Golden know it as The Voice of Golden, a publication produced by city critic Marian Olson, who is the person who loaned Weaver the money for legal bills, and, according to Weaver's Sept. 11 deposition, helped her craft the lawsuit.

What are your thoughts?

As a member of Golden City Council, I am appalled at the idea that a fellow Councilor would sue rather than discuss the issue. There was no discussion....just wham! Another lawsuit. We, on council, had decided that we would all review the tape of the session, but this did not meet Councilor Weaver's need. Now, again, the city will be spending 15-20 thousand dollars of taxpayer money to defend ourselves. Isn't this a sad state of affairs for Golden? There have been around 19 lawsuits supported by Marian Olson, to the tune of over 8 hundred thousand dollars of tax money, over the past 10 years. What a waste! Please look at the other article I posted today, called "Scare Tactics Prevail in VOG". Are we sick of this yet? I sure am. Karen Oxman, Golden City Council
