The artist selects wood from the crotches or crowns of the trees, which often creates a figured or rippled appearance. He also uses spalted wood, burls and "worm hole" wood to produce a finished product that will remain a point of pride to the owner for many years. Additionally, the natural cracks and blemishes in the woods are often inlaid with stone such as turquoise or malachite. Finally, the artist finishes the product with a hand rubbed finish, creating a sheen that enhances the natural beauty of the wood.
