Description:
Fossil fuels-oil, coal, and natural gas-make up 85 percent of the world's energy sources and they're running out. Have you ever felt like declaring your independence? There are other options beyond oil and coal, and it only takes access to information to begin making the switch. The Visitors Center will host a power lunch seminar from noon until 1 p.m. on Sept. 18 where author Christine Woodside will discuss her new book
The Homeowner's Guide to Energy Independence.
The Homeowner's Guide to Energy Independence is a guide to the most viable and affordable alternative energy sources, including solar panels, wind generators, hydrogen fuel cells, wood, hydroelectric and more. During her talk, Woodside will discuss how she has introduced the most promising options to the ordinary American who might feel alternatives are only for hippies in yurts. She also will discuss the importance of conservation, the tried-and-true energy-saving techniques. For more information, visit
Homeowner's Guide to Energy Independence.
Woodside is a writer and editor who lives in Deep River, Conn. She has written articles for
The New York Times,
Washington Post, Hartford Connecticut, Christian Science Monitor and
Woman's Day on environmental topics. She is the former environmental reporter for
The Day, a daily newspaper in New London, Conn., where she worked for 13 years.
