President
Ed Dorsey of the Golden Lions Club announced the winner of its first Tom Plummer Memorial Scholarship at the recent Golden High School Senior Awards ceremony. Senior
Lesley Swim will receive the check for $1000 to help defray the costs of attending Colorado University. This is the first year the Lions Club has awarded a scholarship and it hopes to continue to do so in the future.
Tom Plummer was best known for his operation of Plummer's Jewelry Store (now Creekside Jewelers) in downtown Golden for many years and as a former active Golden Lion, including one of its Past Presidents and Melvin Jones Fellows. Little known about Tom is that he and his wife,
Donna, are both graduates of Golden High School where they became sweethearts and later married.
The Golden Lions Club has invited Lesley, and her parents and well as Donna to one of their future meetings where the $1000 check will be presented and Lesley will tell the members about herself, her activities and her aspirations.
The Club Scholarship Committee chaired by Lion Tim Campbell (in photo with Lesley) interviewed a number of students, all very talented, before deciding on Lesley.
