Manning School Destination Imagination Team Going to Global Finals in Knoxville Tennessee!
Congratulations to a local Destination Imagination (DI) team from the Manning Middle School in Golden on their recent first-place finish at the Colorado State DI competition!
DI is an international problem-solving competition where teams of up to seven students work for several months developing a solution to their chosen DI problem. DI problems generally have engineering and artistic required elements. Solutions must be team created and usually include a skit with costumes and props.
The Manning School team called the "Banana Phones" (a team with appeal) won first place at the Jefferson County regional competition in March with their theatrical solution to the problem "I've Got a Secret," which qualified them for the State DI competition held on April 26.
The Banana Phones then took first place at the Colorado State tournament, which qualifies them to attend DI Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn. from May 21 to 24.
DI Global Finals are held every year and are attended by teams from most of the United States and from around the globe. "The only way for teams to attend DI Global Finals is to win their qualifying competitions, so the team truly earns their way to the competition. It is an amazing experience for these kids to see all the original solutions at DI Global Finals and to meet other DI kids from around the world," said
Suzanne Paschke.
The Banana Phones are
Izabel Aguiar,
LaRee Hardin,
Allison Hurcomb,
Paxton Jones,
Dana Kiel,
Megan Paschke, and
Allison Schneider, and are coached by
Suzanne Paschke, of Lakewood.
The DI team would like to thank their coach, parents, teachers, friends, and well wishers for their support. And they would especially like to thank the Manning School PTA for helping to pay for their trip to Knoxville!
