Cayou RMAC player of week


Colorado School of Mines softball player Taylor Cayou was named the April 29 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Cayou, a 5'3" junior right-handed pitcher / infielder from Lakewood (Green Mountain High School), posted a .600 batting average (12-for-20) over the course of six combined games at the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs and Regis University during games played he last week in April.

Cayou also had two doubles, 10 runs scored, five homeruns and 13 RBI while starting all six games. The owner of a 1.450 slugging percentage and a .619 on-base percentage last week, Cayou was also errorless defensively in 16 total chances.

In the Orediggers' 25-18 victory at UCCS April 23 (game two of a doubleheader), Cayou went 5-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three HR, four runs scored and a single-game school record nine RBI.

For the season, Cayou is hitting .337 (33-for-98) with nine HR and 31 RBI. In 26 total appearances on the mound (19 starts), Cayou is 7-4 with a 3.98 ERA (103.2 combined IP) and five complete games. Cayou, who also has three saves this season, leads the CSM pitching staff in strikeouts (81) and is currently ranked fifth in the RMAC in opposing batting average (.270).

A two-time Academic All-RMAC performer in the classroom (2007, 2008), Cayou finished sixth in the RMAC in ERA (3.22) as a sophomore in 2007.

With their 27-11 record in conference play, the Orediggers finished atop the regular-season RMAC standings.
