The Golden Lions Club recently completed another project in one of Golden's parks, this time, at its namesake, Lions Park. The horseshoe pits on the east end of the park have been in poor shape for many years, barely playable and non-regulation for serious horseshoe players.
The Lions completely replaced the two pits by digging out what was there, lowering the level of the overall pits, installing new wooden sides and backsplashes and then using a rock base covered by fabric paper before the final layer of sand to make the pits self-draining. Measurements were carefully followed to insure that the new pits would meet regulations for official events and so, now it's time to pitch.
The new horseshoe pits are open to the public who will have to bring their own horseshoes, and are asked to rake the pits after using.
Here's to many ringers at Golden's new horseshoe pits in Lions Park.
