People who inspired you (and how):
Tom Black- Tom Black was my Sunday school teacher and is still one of my mentors and closest friends. His demonstration of how to treat all people with love and respect is the model I aspire to live my life by.
Holly Scripter- My wife inspires me on a daily basis. She holds two Master's degrees, and is a wonderful mother. Watching her energy, happiness, and love for the girls leaves me in awe. Running for office and keeping my job as Assistant Vice President at Wells Fargo is nothing compared to the job that Holly does as a mother.
How you have contributed to the community:
I am a Sunday school teacher, President of my Home Owners Association and active volunteer through out the community.
Furthermore, I have dedicated the last five years to helping people become homeowners. While the mortgage industry went crazy by giving sub-prime loans in an effort to make money, I worked to give people realistic and sustainable mortgages. I have helped over 1,000 people achieve the American Dream of owning a home.
What are the biggest issues facing your constituency now:
The biggest issue facing my constituency now is the economy.
Everyone of us is feeling the pain. From energy prices, to the instability in the financial markets, and a weak job market it is clear these are challenging times. As a business leader I see on a daily basis just how difficult things are for people. While there are no easy answers or easy solutions I know that we can turn our economy around with good leadership.
- We need to keep government small and focused on essential community services that inspire individual's innovation.
- -We need to support local and small business with tax breaks because they will be the engine that creates jobs in this economy.
- -We need to invest heavily in green energy jobs. We have the perfect climate to be leaders in the 21 st century for both wind and solar power. We can bring thousands of high paying jobs to this state if we seize the opportunity.
- We need to invest in rebuilding our state's infrastructure. Everything from roads, bridges, rail, communications, refineries, and green energy needs to be modernized. This will create thousands of jobs and make our state more friendly and ready to support the 21 st century economy.
- We need to invest in education. If the state wants to have a good long term economy then we need to make sure that we are preparing our students for the workforce. This means keeping class sizes small, hiring the best teachers, and putting the student first.
Why I am Running
In these challenging times I am running so that I can give back to the community. My parents instilled in me the value and importance of public service, and I believe that together we can work to make our community stronger and sustain our quality of life.
