Tie flies with children at Windy Peak

Are you a fisher person? Do you enjoy working with kids?

Do you remember the first fish you caught and who introduced you to the wonders fishing? If so, how about passing it on.

West Denver Trout Unlimited is in need of volunteers to assist with their fly tying/fishing program offered a Windy Peak Outdoor Education Lab School near Bailey.

All sixth grade students in Jefferson County Public Schools have the opportunity to spend a week at the outdoor lab school learning about our wonderful Colorado environment and how to be good stewards of our natural resources.

WDTU has been involved with the school for more than a decade. We have reclaimed the heavily silted fishing pond, equipped a fly tying studio, and built a handicap accessible fishing pier at the site.

Sixth-grade team leaders work with the chapter's education co-directors to schedule programs in fly fishing while their students are at the school. Your commitment for a program involves spending a day (7:30a.m. to -4 p.m.) at the school tying flies in the studio and taking kids fishing in the pond.

Breakfast and lunch is shared with the students in the dining hall. Come join us. The pond is stocked with native greenback cutthroat trout. If you would like to participate in this unique program, contact Charlie Horn @ 303-278-3200 or e-mail horndreams@msn.com
