So you're thinking about starting a business. Maybe you were laid off or your company is on shaky grounds. Well, before you take out a 2nd mortgage or ask family or friends to lend you money ...lets get to the nitty gritty of starting your own business.
One of the first questions I ask my clients - Is this business you chose in sync with your unique gifts or talents? If you're only interested in a venture because it seems there's good money in it, chances are you'll be grappling even with the simple stuff. I tell many, a business like other things in life has to pull you not push you.
Then there's the money. How much can you invest? How much of a risk can you take? How much can you lose? There are always the costs you don't think about, know about or just come up. Will the banks give you a loan? Be mindful what they want as collateral.
Can you go it alone at least at the start?
Paperwork, phone calls, marketing ideas........ Oh my! As a soloprenuer you will have to handle all aspects of the business.
How good are you at selling? Can you market your product/services?
You may be excellent in what you do, but what about the marketing end? The more you know about the inn's and out's of marketing (there's a lot) the more successful your business will be.
How good are you in making decisions?
With a new business you're calling all the shots. You might need to make quick judgment calls without much guidance. This may be hard if you were working for a company and there was team effort.
Are you a doer?
Professor and author John Gartner wrote a book "The hypomania edge" he believes that many successful entrepreneurs as part of their make up have hypomania. Creative, energetic, impatient and very persistent spells hypomania. Traits that help you prevail when the going gets tough.
There are many other questions you need to ask yourself. How are you with handling rejection? Do you get down or frustrated easily? Do you have faith in yourself and believe in your abilities?
Making a list with these questions can help. You must be realistic and honest with yourself. Reading books about business people and how they succeeded is also very helpful and inspiring.
If you're seriously thinking about starting a business and not sure if it's the right fit. I will walk you through the 7- Step Process for Clarity and Results ©. Here we will pin point what your true calling is and get you started. What ever it is!
