Boulder Ballet's production of Comediaopened this past weekend at the Dairy Center for the Arts.Audiences oohed, aahhed, and laughed out loud with delight in reaction to the dance pieces.Peter Davison's choreography blends contemporary ballet movement with objects, music, costumes and lighting to create a highly theatrical work.The first half of the show employs a diversity of props to heighten the action.Some notable elements include a pas de deux on a ladder, the juggling of pillows, and the illumination of a sextet by handheld light bulbs.The second half of the production comprises ofBella Luna, a story ballet inspired by commedia dell'arte, a form of street theater that flourished in Italy from the 16 th through 18 th centuries.Bella Lunaexplores the tragicomic elements surrounding the tale of a father trying to wed his daughter to a rich suitor, while she has fallen in love with a poor boy from the "wrong side of the tracks."You won't want to miss a moment of the action and still have an opportunity to see this amazing show.Boulder Ballet performs March 1 st and 2 nd at the Lakewood Cultural Center in Lakewood.For more information, go to www.beyondballet.com.
